In Memory of Minneapolis: A Call to Protect Our Children
In Memory of Minneapolis: A Call to Protect Our Children
Published by Woken Systems Inc. · August 27, 2025
Our hearts are with the families, students, educators, and community members affected by the shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis. We share this reflection in solidarity and sorrow, and in commitment to a safer future for every child.
A Tragedy That Should Never Be Normal
On August 27, 2025, two children—just 8 and 10 years old—were killed when gunfire pierced the windows during a school Mass. Seventeen others were injured, most of them children. Teachers and staff acted with extraordinary courage, shielding students and directing them to safety.
Why We Speak
Woken Systems was founded to explore how technology can help prevent school shootings and protect children. Our work is guided by a simple belief: the places where children learn, play, and worship must be safe. We pursue solutions that detect risk sooner, alert faster, and support coordinated response—always with respect for community values, privacy, and policy.
A Shared Responsibility
We reject the idea that tragedies like this are inevitable. We honor the victims by working toward practical measures that reduce harm and buy precious seconds when they matter most. We support communities in developing plans that balance safety, privacy, and transparency.
